Extension Washington County to Relocate to Moraine Park Technical College Campus in 2026

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension–Washington County announces its upcoming relocation to the Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) campus in West Bend, with the move expected to take place in January 2026.

This exciting transition strengthens Extension’s mission to connect youth and families with lifelong learning and career development opportunities. The new location on the MPTC campus will provide enhanced access to state-of-the-art STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) educational resources, creating a vibrant hub for innovation and hands-on learning.

By co-locating with a leading technical college, Extension will expand its STEM programming through:

  • Interactive, project-based learning opportunities using industry-relevant technology and equipment.
  • New partnerships with MPTC faculty and students, giving local youth insight into real-world applications of STEM skills.
  • Career exploration and readiness programs that align with high-demand fields such as advanced manufacturing, health sciences, information technology, and engineering.
  • Expanded 4-H STEM programming, including robotics, coding, environmental science, and digital fabrication labs.

“This relocation is more than just a move — it’s an investment in the future of Washington County,” said Cindy Sarkady, Area Extension Director, UW–Madison Division of Extension. “We are creating a direct link between K–12 youth and postsecondary education that will inspire the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in STEM careers.”

Community 4-H Clubs will have access to the enhanced programming and have opportunities to hold meetings and events on campus.

Moraine Park Technical College leaders also see the partnership as a strategic win for the region’s workforce development pipeline.

“We are proud to partner with UW-Extension, offering advanced educational opportunities at our West Bend Campus,” Moraine Park president Bonnie Baerwald said. “Our mission is to serve our district through advanced and innovative learning solutions, and growing University partnerships are a big part of that. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with UW-Extension, creating even more accessible, high-quality pathways for students to advance their education and careers.”

Washington County officials echoed the enthusiasm and long-term vision behind the move.

Last year, County Executive Josh Schoemann and the County Board of Supervisors changed its UW-Extension programming by adding a second 4-H Extension Educator position funded by the county. The stated focus of this investment included post-secondary pathways including STEM- or AIR(Automation, Innovation, Robotics)-related project areas and expanding access to youth starting in grade school to help them learn about STEM or AIR.

“This partnership is a testament to our county’s commitment to preparing the next generation for success,” said Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann. “Bringing Extension and Moraine Park together under one roof enhances community access to educational resources, aligns with our economic development goals, and builds a strong foundation for future workforce readiness.”

Additional details about the relocation and new program offerings will be shared in the coming months.
