How to Apply for a Wisconsin 4-H Charter
Every 4-H Club or Group in Wisconsin must have a charter. A charter is official permission from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension that allows a club or group to use the 4-H name and emblem. It also shows that the club follows the rules and goals of the Wisconsin 4-H program.
Why the Charter Matters
The charter:
- Confirms your club is part of Wisconsin 4-H.
- Helps with insurance coverage for volunteers and members.
- Supports planning and evaluation of your club’s educational activities.
Key Dates
- The online charter application opens on September 1.
- The deadline to submit it is November 1.

Important Notes
- All clubs and groups must be chartered or be a recognized committee of a chartered county 4-H leader organization.
