Dairy and meat goat show preparation and care

Youth who wish to exhibit goats at the county fair must have a goat as part of their project. However, exhibiting goats at the fair is not required to participate in the Goat Project. Goat project members may choose to participate in the fair by exhibiting a goat-related project item in the Ziegler building.

To remain active in the Goat Project, members are required to attend at least two meetings each year and work one 4-H food booth, with those volunteer hours credited to the Goat Project.

Members may bring up to four goats to the county fair. Fair participation also includes several responsibilities that require parent involvement, such as pen setup and takedown, barn duty, and tent closing duties.

Youth in the Goat Project will learn:

  • Fair preparation
  • Showmanship
