On July 15th, The Wonders of Physics traveling show came to Washington County with 75 youth and parents in attendance. The mission of the Wonders of Physics is to generate interest in physics among people of all ages and backgrounds. Youth attending the event at MPTC in West Bend were between 3rd and 8th graders. The show was filled with demonstrations, with audience participation, that illustrated the world around us, such as gravity, weather, and atmosphere. The presenter for the event was Haddie McLean, UW–Madison alum with a B.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. She joined the department in August 2021 after a 20+ year career as a meteorologist at WISC-TV in Madison.
From instantly frozen marshmallows, to bicycle-tire-gyroscope to electric circuits, all were part of the fun that helped everyone understand scientific (physics) concepts.
Since Professor Emeritus Clint Sprott created this program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984, more than 300,000 people have seen this traveling show. .
