Communication and Arts Festival

*This message was in the 2018 November/December Cloverline

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest and support for the Communication and Arts Festival this year. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough support for a successful event and we will be tabling the Festival this year. However, we will be planning for 2020 in the spring and we would love to welcome more adult and youth members to our committee, so please keep it in mind!

This event is an opportunity for youth to display their talents and skills in 9 different communication and arts categories. Review the general information and class details to see all the options. The festival is also a great chance for youth to experience and practice face-to-face judging in many categories and receive valuable feedback on their work.

Most categories are judged at the event but posters and writing are judged ahead of time so you don’t need to actually be at the event. There are many opportunities to try out something new as youth don’t need to be enrolled in a particular project in order to participate and there are two dance workshops offered.

Fast and easy sign up is being done through a Google Form. Enter your general information and select the categories you’d like to participate in. When done, select “submit” and you’ll receive a confirmation. If you need assistance, call the UW-Extension Office, 262-335-4478.

Registration closes Monday, February 26, 2018. Note: poster and writing entries are due to the UW-Extension Office on February 26 as well.

NEW! Intro to Ballet and Contemporary Dance Workshops – Presented by Schauer Contemporary Ballet Company. Try a new style of dance or dancing for the first time. No prior experience needed. No other participation in the event is required to participate in these workshops. Pre-registration is preferred, but not required.

Ballet Workshop
Come and experience the art of classical ballet dance! Participants will focus on learning classical ballet techniques including turnout, positions of the feet, proper body alignment, movement connection and coordination, and movement sequences. Participants should wear comfortable clothes to freely move in, and they can wear socks or ballet shoes (if they already own a pair).

Contemporary Workshop
Participants will learn how to become versatile dancers through this genre of movement, which includes the exploration of introductory techniques, body alignment, building a strong center, developing musicality, and establishing a sense of freedom and emotion within the whole body. Another element of this workshop will focus on partnering and improvisational movement to give students the opportunity for self-expression to move creatively within their whole body. Participants should wear comfortable clothes to freely move in, and they may wear socks or dance barefoot.
